Our latest data from 2,095 adults across the UK shows:-
- Approval for the Government continues to decline. Currently 52% approve (down 7%) and 40% disapprove (up 7%). Any lingering ‘Boris bounce’ seems to be running thin.
- Some of the intense fear factor has rescinded. Just 22% now feel that the worse is yet to come with COVID (down from 66% two weeks ago in the days immediately following the PM being hospitalised).
- One reason for the decline undoubtedly is the focus on testing and PPE delivery – an issue where the nation is divided. 48% agree that the Government is doing all they can to increase testing and deliver PPE – while 42% disagree. Disagreement is higher the younger people are; disagreement is also higher in Scotland (50%) and Northern Ireland (53%). There is no significant difference of opinion by those working in the private/public sector.
- Would Labour have done any better at dealing with COVID? 20% feel they would but 50% feel they would not.
- We know now for the third week running that one in three admit to mental difficulties in their household with the lock down. But do we expect to see US Style protests anytime soon? One in ten people across the country are bold enough to tell us that they would support a protest against social distancing rules and the economic hardship associated with them. Those under the age of 35 are significantly more likely to support it (15%).
Fieldwork was carried out online amongst a nationally representative sample of 2,095 adults aged 18+ living in the UK between 22nd-24th April.
